Gov. Beshear signs new bills into law

FRANKFORT, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — Gov. Andy Beshear took action Monday on several bills sent to his desk by the General Assembly, signing 17 measures into law, vetoing four, and returning three others without his signature.

Among the bills signed into law is Senate Bill 120, which requires coaches to report suspected child abuse or neglect, and Senate Bill 169, allowing internet providers and social media companies to be subpoenaed in child exploitation investigations.

Beshear also signed House Bill 38, which strengthens penalties for protective order violations.

“House Bill 38 increases the penalties for those who violate a protective order. That means those who go to the court, seeking help, who are in danger, will be a little bit safer,” Beshear said.

Additionally, the governor signed House Bill 313, designating June as Kentucky History Month.

Beshear said he vetoed four bills either because they harm state workers or violate Kentucky’s constitution.

Lawmakers return to Frankfort on Thursday for the final two days of the 2025 legislative session.
