Kentucky women bow out in round of 32; cats fall to Kansas State in OT 80-79

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – The 2024-2025 Kentucky Women’s Basketball season came to a close Sunday afternoon when the cats fell in overtime 80-79 to the wildcats of Kansas State.

It was a back and forth battle down the stretch, and unfortunately, did not swing in favor of Kentucky.

The game went to overtime tied at 69. Kentucky was down by one point with seconds left on the clock. The cats put up multiple shots that could have been game winners in those final seconds, but none of them fell. Georgia Amoore’s baseline floater rimmed out at the buzzer to end Kentucky’s season.

It was the final time seniors Georgia Amoore and Dazia Lawrence would compete in a Kentucky Jersey. However, Amoore was positive in the postgame press conference, saying, “I’m not going to let one shot affect five years.”

Amoore has been Kentucky’s leading scorer all season, as well as a leader and trailblazer of the Kenny Brooks era at Kentucky.

Kansas State star-post Ayoka Lee returned to lineup for the NCAA Tournament, after being out with an injury she obtained back on February 22nd. The all-American put up 16 points against the wildcats on Sunday.

One of the biggest threats from Kansas State on Sunday afternoon was Temira Poindexter; she drilled eight three-pointers for 24 points.

Clara Strack led the cats with 22 points, Georgia Amoore and Dazia Lawrence combined for 33 points in their final game as wildcats, and Teonni Key had a double-double 13 points and 15 rebounds.

The Kentucky women finish their season 23-8 overall.
