Police: Backseat Robber Caught
Police said they’ve caught a backseat robber who was almost stopped by child-proof locks.
A woman was sitting in a car at the Speedway on Nicholasville Road on March 21st when a man jumped into the back seat wearing a bandana on his face and holding a gun.
The woman told police the man pointed the gun at her and demanded money.
She said when she gave it to him, she heard the gun make a noise and she grabbed the barrel of the gun, injuring herself.
The suspect tried to get out of the car but the child-proof locks were activated and he was trapped.
The victim told police the robber told her to let him out.
She did and he ran off.
Police said a fingerprint on the door handle matched that of Timothy Helms, 38.
According to court documents, Helms admitted to the crime but said he did not have a gun.
Documents also said the victim identified Helms as the robber.
