LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW)- Kentucky guard Jaxson Robinson will not play another game for Kentucky and in his college career as he will will undergo surgery for his injured wrist on March 5, Head Coach Mark Pope announced on Saturday.

The graduate student guard will be out until late May or early June per Pope, when he is expected to make a full recovery.

After 17 Kentucky’s loss to 1 Auburn, Pope fielded a question about the health of Robinson, who was sidelined for four games in February due to the injury.

Robinson played versus Oklahoma on Wednesday, but only lasted 12 minutes before retiring to the bench for the remainder of the game.

“He just wanted so badly to play that he rehabbed it and had an injection to try and make it functional,” Pope said. “He was doing okay and then went down in the first half at Oklahoma. There’s just no way he’s going to play.”

The former BYU talent under Pope was averaging 13 points per game for UK this season.

His absence is big loss as the Wildcats look ahead to LSU at home on Tuesday, March 4 and the SEC Tournament later this month.

“It’s unfortunate. Super big loss for us as a team, but more importantly, just thinking about him. He’s an amazing human being, so I hate to see him go down like that and have to play his last game in the last game without even knowing it until recently,” said Koby Brea.

“I think everybody has the mindset of stepping up and helping whenever they possibly can. And be able to get better throughout the season, as tough as it is for Jaxson,” said Andrew Carr. “We all try to be there for him and we know he would kill and die to be out there with us right now. Everybody knows that we need to go out there and do it for him if not for anything else.”
