Families, pets rescued from historic flooding

MANCHESTER, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Governor Andy Beshear announced that more than 1,000 people were rescued from floodwaters over the weekend as heavy rain caused widespread flooding across parts of Kentucky.

In Clay County, the Manchester Fire Department’s Swift Water Rescue Team responded to more than 24 emergency calls on Saturday, according to a post on the department’s Facebook page. The team rescued more than a dozen adults and children, along with at least eight animals trapped by rising waters.

Officials are continuing to assess flood damage across the state, and emergency crews remain on standby.
