Fire destroys home in rural Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A family is without a home after a fire on Todds Road in Lexington.

Firefighters say they were dealing with that lack of water supply because the nearest water source was at least a mile away, forcing them to drive back and forth to the house.

“That creates a problem and we also have a problem with access. This is a very narrow and rural road back to the location, so we are really only able to get one truck at a time back to the structure,” said Battalion Chief Jason Wells.

The Lexington Fire Department says the homeowners were outside when the fire started. The homeowners weren’t injured, but the home was destroyed. Firefighters add that the home was originally built in the 1700′ which may have caused the flames to spread quicker..

Firefighters believe this was an accidental fire and are still trying to find the exact cause.
