New Circle Road shut down for police investigation

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Police have surrounded a hotel in Lexington where they believe an accused killer is holed up.

Police have been at the Bryan Station Inn on E. New Circle Road since 4:50 a.m. Friday.

Officials say they believe Derek Garten is inside one of the rooms.

Garten is accused of killing 39-year-old Margaret Elizabeth Smith in Frankfort on Tuesday.

Authorities have been searching for Garten since then.

New Circle Road between Limestone and Bryan Station remains closed to traffic.
