LSC Super League team helps ring the bell for the Salvation Army of Lexington
LEXINGTON, KY. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — With the holiday season in full swing, Lexington Sporting Club’s Super League Team is living up to its billing as, the community’s club.
Players volunteering with the Salvation Army of Lexington, encouraging others in the community to give back.
“We should all kind of do it and get ourselves involved,” says Courtney Jones, who is a member of the super league team.
Adding that, “people are just happy to see that we’re getting involved in the community,” she said of ringing the bell on Wednesday at Fayette Mall.
Players with Lexington Sporting Club are encouraging community members to spread holiday cheer while also giving back in some way, shape or form.
“It’s awesome, especially because we have so many fans from out there in the community, and it’s hard to be able to get involved so much only after giving autographs after the game. So it’s nice getting another opportunity to kind of interact with people and just kind of see what the community is,” added Jones.
While for some this may a be new experience, for one player, volunteering her time is something she is very familiar with.
“One organization that I’ve helped with in the past is Habitat for Humanity. Just building houses and giving affordable homes to people because I think it’s a crazy market.
So to be able to pitch in with that and give people a more affordable housing option would be really awesome for me,” added Emmi Dunn, another player with the club.
This Saturday, the LSC super league team will face off against Brooklyn, and to celebrate the holiday season, the team is also hosting a toy drive.
“We’re just collecting toys for the children in our community,” said Dunn.
If you’d like to help, you can bring a new, unopened toy to one of the collection bins at the stadium’s entrance. The team says there will also be a special guest, all the way from the North Pole.
“The holidays are amazing, and if we think about our own lives and how special it’s been for us growing up and just to have our families and friends, I think giving back to people who are less fortunate than us, to just help to create a very small idea of what the holiday season can be is really special,” she said.
Game time is at 7 P.M. at the Lexington Sporting Club Stadium, it’s located on 200 Shives Drive.
