Richmond parents accused of keeping daughter in cage
RICHMOND, Ky. (WTVQ) – Richmond parents are behind bars after police say the couple kept their adult daughter in a cage. Police say they came to the house and found a seven foot tall cage with a toilet inside.
Officials were at the house removing items from the basement when ABC 36 arrived Monday.
According to the arrest citation, Tito and Shannon Felix told police their daughter suffers from fetal alcohol syndrome, causing her to sleepwalk around the house at night.
The citation says officers came to the house after receiving a call to check on someone in the home. When they arrived, they say they smelled a strong odor of animal feces then found them throughout the entire basement.
Police claim they found bolt latches and a lock that the parents told them was to keep the daughter from getting out so “we can get some sleep.”
The couple is charged with criminal abuse and unlawful imprisonment. State social workers are also working the case.
