Attorney General Russell Coleman files suit against TikTok

FRANKFORT, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Kentucky’s Attorney General has joined a lawsuit alongside 13 other states and Washington D.C., alleging that TikTok is harmful to minors and fails to protect their privacy. This action follows similar suits claiming the social media platform entices young users into harmful behavioral patterns.

“We’re going to force them to answer for creating and pushing an app designed specifically to addict and harm Kentucky’s children. TikTok is more than funny dance videos and looking at cute cats. It’s a specifically and specially-designed tool crafted to suck in minors, leading to depression, anxiety, altered development and even more negative modalities,” said the Attorney General.

The suit also claims that TikTok collects extensive information about its young users and complicates the process for parents who try to delete their children’s accounts, as stated in a federal lawsuit filed in August.
