Breaking down Brock Vandagriff’s first three games
Junior transfer has led UK to a 1-2 overall record.
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW)- Brock Vandagriff’s time as a Kentucky Wildcat has started with a 1-2 record as the team’s offense needs a boost with Ohio University coming to town on September 21.
“Obviously could have made some more plays giving the guys the ball in the perimeter. It felt like we just came up short a little bit obviously, but my play could have improved,” said Vandagriff after the 13-12 loss to #1 Georgia on September 14.
Vandagriff and Kentucky’s struggles in the opening part of the season are quite different than what fans are accustomed too. Both Devin Leary in 2023 and Will Levis in 2022 enjoyed 3-0 starts to the season before both leading UK to 7-6 final tallies.
Below is a comparison of all three signal callers’ first three games under center in Lexington.
Brock Vandagriff (Junior)
- Completion Percentage- 52%
- Yards Per Game-104
- Sacks Per Game- 2.3
- TDs Per Game- 1
- Total INTs- 2
Devin Leary (Senior)
- Completion Percentage- 51%
- Yards Per Game- 285
- Sacks Per Game- 1
- TDs Per Game- 2.6
- Total INTs- 3
Will Levis (Senior)
- Completion Percentage- 67%
- Yards Per Game- 294
- Sacks Per Game- 2.6
- TDs Per Game- 2
- Total INTs- 4
Among the trio of quarterbacks, Vandagriff ranks last in average passing yards (104) and average touchdowns (1) per game. He is second in completion percentage (52%), but has Leary (51%) beat by one percent.
But, the biggest tell of Kentucky’s offensive struggles thus far in 2024 is that Vandagriff’s average passing yards are just over 100 per game. Leary and Levis were close to 300 passing yards per game on average.
With a depleted running back room for the Wildcats early this season, Vandagriff and his receivers will have to pick up some slack and excel to have a better chance at winning games.
