Man arrested after 80 dogs found in home in Garrard County

LANCASTER, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – A Garrard County man has been arrested on animal cruelty charges after more than 80 dogs were discovered living in deplorable conditions inside a home.

According to the Garrard County Sheriff’s Office, deputies found the animals on Thursday at a residence on Royalty Drive in Lancaster. In addition to the dogs, deputies also reported finding decaying animal remains at the scene.

The rescued dogs are now under the care of animal control, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The homeowner, 64-year-old Dennis Kirkpatrick, has been charged with animal torture and 62 counts of animal cruelty. Authorities say more charges are expected as the investigation continues.
