Lawyer Answers To Charges In Unusual Theft Case

A Lexington lawyer asked for an attorney in court Tuesday after being charged in an unusual theft case.
Police said, acting on a tip, they went to John Scott Benton’s Price Road apartment on Monday and found him trying to climb out of a second story window with a stolen bronze statue.
They said a search warrant led to the discovery of a second statue in the home.
Police said the statues were stolen from an art gallery in Versailles this summer.
 They’re valued at $25,000 apiece.
This isn’t Benton’s first time on the wrong side of the law.
According to court documents, he was arrested twice in 2011 while practicing in Lexington.
The Kentucky Bar Association website lists Benton as licensed to practice law.
