LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW)- Tyler Bell, a Kentucky baseball commit from Illinois, will decline the chance to sign a professional contract after being selected 66th overall in the 2024 MLB Draft.

Bell, who was drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays, will come to play in Lexington instead.

“Tyler is an outstanding player and tremendous person,” said Head Coach Nick Mingione. “He will perfectly fit into our culture both on and off the field. The Kentucky baseball program got better today.”

Bell becomes the third highest rated infielder to join the Kentucky program according to Perfect Game.

He signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Wildcats in the winter of 2023.
