Mayor Linda Gorton declared the news with a proclamation on Tuesday

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW)- From now on in Lexington, July 2 is known as Kenny McPeek Day by proclamation from Mayor Linda Gorton.

The 2024 Kentucky Oaks and Derby winning trainer, who is also a native Lexingtonian, received the honor for his success in the horse racing business.

“I don’t even know where to begin. I’m honored,” said McPeek, who was emotional as he received a commemorative plaque from Mayor Gorton that has the proclamation printed on it.
