UPDATE: Water restored to Corinth, boil advisory in effect

CORINTH, Ky. (WTVQ)- A small town that’s been without water for almost a week should get it back Thursday night. The Corinth Water District says it has found the biggest leak and equipment has arrived to repair it.

Usually Corinth city clerk Tara Wright’s job keeps her at a desk. This week, though, she’s been all over and she’s constantly getting calls.

She is delivering water to those who can’t leave their homes. Wright says 90% of water district customers have been without water since Saturday.

“Very flustrating, but even more so for the younger generation that don’t know how to survive,” Mary Crooks said.

She and her sister are taking care of each other after a tough year filled with health issues.

They’ve lived in Corinth over 50 years before the city even offered water.

“Sometimes there’s an advantage to being an old person,” Crooks laughed.

She says she still has a cistern in the back that she’s using to get water to flush toilets. Ashower would be nice, though.

Those who are more able are picking up water from this garage in the funeral home. Organizations big and small like Kroger and a local baptist church have donated several pallets.

“That’s good. I appreciate that,” Don Vickers said.

He shares the positive attitude many people seem to have.

“When you don’t have the water to take a shower, it gets kind of rough so you just trot down to the lake with your bar of soap and go to town,” Vickers said.

Some people have lashed out at the water district for leaving people without water for almost a week, but Vickers says he doesn’t think it could have been avoided.

“They’re doing the best they can so leave them alone. Let them do their thing,” he said.

Their “thing” is just about done. The water district says its two staff members finally found the major leak in a creek crossing where three big sections of pipe got washed out. It should all be fixed by Thursday night.

“That would be nice. Yeah, if they don’t they don’t. I’ll see you tomorrow. I’ll be back to get some more water tomorrow,” Vickers said.

Once the system is fixed, the city will still be under a boil water advisory for a while to make sure the water is safe to drink.
