Phase one of heat plan continues in Lexington

LEXINGTON, KY. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – The city of Lexington will extend Phase One of its Heat Plan from Saturday, June 22, through Tuesday evening, June 25.

Phase One Actions Include:

  • Free Transportation: LexTran will offer free rides to cooling stations for individuals experiencing homelessness.
  • Water Distribution: Outreach teams will distribute water throughout the community.
  • Cooling Stations: Community centers, including Dunbar, Kenwick, Castlewood, and Tates Creek, will stay open into the early evening as cooling stations.

With the heat index predicted to reach the upper 90s and possibly exceed 100, Lexington will monitor conditions and expand resources as needed.

Residents, especially vulnerable groups, are urged to take precautions if they are outside in the late morning to the early afternoon.
