Clay County mother indicted on child abuse charges

CLAY COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – A 23-year-old Kentucky mother, Brianna Burkhart, has been charged in connection with the alleged abuse of her 3-month-old baby. State Police announced Burkhart’s arrest Wednesday following an indictment by a Clay County grand jury on charges of assault and child abuse. Investigators revealed that Burkhart’s infant is currently hospitalized at UK Hospital in critical condition.

The baby was airlifted to UK Hospital after initially being taken to Saint Joseph-London Hospital with injuries sustained in April. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the infant’s injuries is ongoing.
