KSU relaunching Rosenwald Center for 4-H youth development

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ)- Kentucky State University is re-purposing its state-of-the-art child development center to be used as an innovative education and research model for 4-H.

The grand opening of the Rosenwald Center will be on Thursday, May 24 at 3:30 PM until 5 PM.

During this time, community members will be able to tour the facility and visit with staff.

Assistant Extension professor and 4-H youth development specialist, Dr. Travella Free and her team are working on developing and implementing 4-H clubs, 4-H camps, in-school and after-school programs, which will provide safe and supervised places for youth to spent time, learn new things, and develop their interests.

The 4-H programs will be available to those in kindergarten through eighth grade.

4-H activities focus on subjects within the science field, health and well-being, and civic education.

4-H is an important program that serves more than 279,450 youth from all across Kentucky and almost 6 million nationally.

The Rosenwald Center, a 15,000 square-foot space, will provide adequate room for the programs with its six classrooms, three observation rooms, four offices, one large multi-purpose room, one conference room, and a full kitchen.

The building was constructed and completed in January of 2013 with funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The Rosenwald Center for 4-H Youth Development is located at 315 Maryland Avenue in Frankfort.
