Muth scratches from the 2024 Preakness

BALTIMORE, Md. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – The favorite in the 2024 Preakness, Muth, was scratched from the race Wednesday morning. The scratch came roughly 12 hours after arriving in Pimlico. The horse was declared out of the race after his temperature spiked to 103 degrees upon his arrival in Baltimore.

“We are sick about this,” said Trainer Bob Baffert. “The horse had been doing really well, but we have to do what’s right by the horse.”

Baffert has won the Preakness eight times; including last year with National Treasure.

Kentucky Derby winner Mystik Dan now has one less challenger as he looks to become the first horse since justify in 2018 to win the derby and Preakness.
