Transportation issues cause delayed bus routes in FCPS
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Several Wednesday (5/08) afternoon bus routes in Fayette County Public Schools (FCPS) will experience delays due to absences among the transportation team, according to FCPS. Families were notified of the disruptions, affecting various schools in the district.
The affected bus routes include:
- Bus #960 serving Rise STEM Academy and Martin Luther King Jr. Academy
- Bus #117 serving George Washington Carver STEM Academy
- Bus #963 serving Deep Springs Elementary, Bryan Station High, and Leestown Middle
- Bus #971 serving Booker T. Washington Elementary, Frederick Douglass High, Carter G. Woodson Academy, and Crawford Middle
- Bus #2314 serving Coventry Oak Elementary
- Bus #1807 serving Yates Elementary, Northern Elementary, and Bryan Station Middle
To accommodate the delays, rides will be available at 4:45 p.m. after the completion of other routes and when additional drivers are available. Students affected by the delays will remain at their respective schools until transportation arrives, or alternative arrangements are made by families.
FCPS apologized for the inconvenience and expressed appreciation for families’ patience and understanding during this time.
In a separate notification, school principals were informed about the status of afternoon and evening activities. Although thunderstorms are forecasted, with the highest threat projected south of Fayette County, there is currently no districtwide plan to cancel activities. School leaders have been advised to use discretion in consultation with their chiefs regarding decisions to delay or cancel activities.
In a related incident, Tates Creek Middle School experienced an evacuation around 12:30 p.m. due to an unknown odor detected in one classroom. Lexington Fire Department suspects a freon leak as the possible source of the odor. While sixth-grade students have returned to the building, seventh and eighth graders were relocated to Tates Creek High School as a precautionary measure. Parents were informed that they could pick up their students at the main entrance, with normal dismissal scheduled for 3:55 p.m.
