Trainer Todd Pletcher talks about Kentucky Derby hopeful Fierceness

Florida Derby winner taking well to the Churchill Downs track according to Pletcher

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Two-time Kentucky Derby winning trainer Todd Pletcher has prepared many horses for the Kentucky Derby and three of them have been Breeder’s Cup juvenile winners and two-year-old champions.

Uncle Mo and Forte both were scratches in Pletcher’s previous attempts at bringing the reigning two-year-old and Breeder’s Cup juvenile champion to win in Louisville.

This year, Pletcher is taking his Florida Derby winner, Fierceness, to Churchill Downs as he searches to break his string of bad luck with two-year-old champions.

“We’re here with one horse with one chance. I think that adds to the pressure of the moment, but we’re blessed to be here,” said Pletcher.

Fierceness has taken well to the Churchill Downs track according to Pletcher. As for the status of his Derby hopeful, Pletcher says that health is his main concern with just over a week until the run for the roses.

“(Fierceness) is super laid back and took well to everything this morning,” said Pletcher.
