Mark Pope continues to build coaching staff; hires Alvin Brooks III as associate head coach

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – According to CBS sports’ Matt Norlander, Mark Pope hired Baylor basketball assistant Alvin Brooks III as his associate head coach at Kentucky on Wednesday.

Brooks comes to UK after serving as one of Scott Drew’s assistants for the last eight seasons, which included when the bears won their school’s first ever national title in 2021. Brooks has a previous connection to the wildcats program; his father, Alvin Brooks II, served as the director of basketball operations from 2007-09 under Billy Gillispie.

Along with the hire of Brooks, Pope’s current staff now includes Jason Hart and Cody Fueger as assistant coaches, and Mark Fox as a special assistant.
