Reports: Scott Drew to remain Baylor’s Head Basketball Coach, passes on UK job
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Scott Drew, Baylor University’s Men’s Basketball Head Coach, will remain at that institution, passing on the UK job left empty with the departure of John Calipari to Arkansas, according to several reports.
Drew reportedly did not meet with Kentucky in person, although a plane connected to UK booster Joe Craft was tracked, Wednesday (4/10), from the Waco, Texas area (where Baylor is located) to the Lexington market. Reports say Drew was not on that plane, however, a local TV station in Waco reportedly saw members of his family exiting the plane, when it landed there later Wednesday night.
The vacancy at Kentucky comes after former head coach John Calipari left to take the same position at the University of Arkansas. Calipari was introduced to fans in Fayetteville Wednesday evening, after flying in earlier in the day.
Other names being tossed around to replace Calipari are former Kentucky coach Rick Pitino, Auburn’s Bruce Pearl, Chicago Bulls coach Billy Donovan, who had two back-to-back National Championships with the University of Florida, UConn’s Dan Hurley and Alabama’s Nate Oates. Oates and Hurley publicly said they’re not interested in the Kentucky job, while Donovan said he’s committed to the Bulls.
