Rockin for Ryan fundraiser this weekend, funds will help Ryan Schneider

Schneider was in serious accident in September of 2023

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) — After a beloved member of the Lexington community got into a serious accident, that’s left him with injuries that he will carry the rest of his life, a group of his friends decided to help him out.

“I think it’s going to be a heck of a lot of fun. I’m really ready for it,” says Ryan Schneider is looking forward to a special fundraiser this weekend, Rockin’ with Ryan.
The event is being put together to help Schneider.

“Just the simple things, you know, being able to take care of yourself. Just like every day, getting up and taking a shower, going bath or just little things you don’t really notice. That’s all gone. And that’s that’s the hardest thing,” adds Schneider.

Its been six months since Ryan Schneider was in a serious accident that left him paralyzed from the waist down.

“It was devastating. And we all thought it was less serious than it was, but we knew how tough of a guy Ryan was, and so the rugby team knew he’d be coming home and we had to get his home ready for him, and we did it together,” says Dudley Burke, a friend of Ryan’s who played rugby in college.

“It was hard to process it, especially being so far. And what made it harder was just not being able to get the sarcastic texts that I was used to getting from my crazy friend,” added Scott Shapiro, another friend of Ryan’s.

While Schneider continued his recovery at the hospital, his friends knew things had changed, and to make his home more accessible to his new lifestyle, they decided to remodel a part of the home.

“It’s very heartwarming, you know, and very humbling. And you know, that I would, you know, this whole thing when, you know, people that cared about me enough to see me every day, people who cared enough to come and give their time to basically build, rebuild a part of my house, so I could live. So I could live here, once I left the hospital,” says Ryan reflecting on the actions if his friends.

Friends that Ryan says have been fundamental in his recovery, especially emotionally.
Friends that have been there since high school and college,

“Without you guys being here for me, I think my life would be pretty horrible,” says Ryan directing the message to his friends.

“Thanks for letting me be there for you, bud, added Burke.

Several of his friends have put together a fundraiser to help with the costs especially for a generator.
