LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – About 2,000 community members are gathering Thursday to take action on violent crime, drugs, and mental illness in Lexington.

The assembly is put together by Building a United Interfaith Lexington through Direct-Action, a coalition of 26 religious congregations across Lexington.

BUILD plans to press decision makers to pursue policy that addresses poverty and injustice in Fayette County.

BUILD says leaders that plan to attend are Mayor Jim Gray, Police Chief Lawrence Weathers, Commissioner of Public Safety Ken Armstrong, Commissioner of Social Services Chris Ford and Vice Mayor Steve Kay.

The assembly is scheduled for 7 pm at the Lexington Convention Center.
