London, Ky man arrested, accused of assaulting officer
LONDON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A London, Ky. man is being held on Assault on a Peace Officer charge, during an incident that happened last Friday (3/15).
According to the London Police Department, 34-year old Christopher L. Philpot is being held in the Laurel County Detention Center on several charges.
In a release, police say Officer Mikey Ashurst started following a vehicle that reportedly had been driving through neighborhoods with its lights off.
Police say the officer stopped the vehicle, and when he got out of his patrol car, the suspect sped away.
The officer chased the vehicle, until it turned into a field.
Officer Ashurst says the driver ran away, and he ran after him.
He says the suspect began to fight him, grabbing and hitting the officer several times.
Police say the officer was able to hold Philpot long enough for other officers to help place him under arrest.
According to the release, Philpot was charged with Assault 3rd – Peace Officer, Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree, Fleeing or Evading Police – 1st Degree (Motor Vehicle), Fleeing or Evading Police – 2nd Degree (On Foot), Resisting Arrest, Reckless Driving, Speeding 20 MPH Over Limit and Improper Start from Parked Position.
