LSC gearing up for second year, home opener this Saturday

Spanish speaking players talk diversifying team and the variety of culture on the team

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) — Lexington Sporting Club kicks off their second year this Saturday against the Northern Colorado Hailstorm, and with the success the team had in their first season they are looking to continue building on it.

To help in the efforts, they’ve revamped almost every aspect, mainly the technical staff and their players.

“For me the best thing that could happen is that we win the first game,” said new defender, Jorge Corrales.

This year, those with the team wanted to continue diversifying their talent, not just on the field.

“It is always a good thing when there are different cultures, because one can learn from others as well,” added Abel Caputo, a midfielder for LSC.

LSC wants to continue expanding their range of fans and cater to those who might not have been aware of the new possibilities the team is offering to the city.
From the youth level to the professional level.

“It’s good that right now, if you live in Lexington there is a team and an organization for everyone, it is also made for us to give them a show and to bring results. The public’s support is always idea, if the Latin community could come out and support, if would be the best thing because we as Hispanics we live for soccer, it is a passion,” adds Caputo.

For Spanish goalkeeper, Nico Campuzano, he’s excited about fans coming together for the love of the sport, “there are many different cultural influences in the team, lets come together to play the sport that we all love.”

A sentiment assistant Coach Javier Cano shares.

“We as Latinos are passionate about sports and we would love to have that in our stadium in Georgetown and when we get ours here, to have that ambiance, that music, that love for the game that Latinos love to express,” he says.

LSC kicks off their season this Saturday at Toyota Stadium, game time is at 7 p.m.
