Tornado Drill in local schools
Part of Severe Weather Awareness Week
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – You may have heard tornado sirens blaring out this morning, around 10:00 am. They were being tested as part of a statewide tornado drill.
It’s also part of Severe Weather Awareness Week.
Students at Garrett Morgan Elementary took part in a tornado drill at their school, hunkering down in hallways, learning how to stay safe if a possible tornado was detected in the area.
The school says this drill is a great reminder to the community of the importance of always being ready.
“You know, it’s important for us to practice as we’re entering the beginning of severe weather season,” said Assistant Principal Zachary Adkins. “This is an important time for us to go over policies and procedures.”
All Kentuckians are encouraged to practice their tornado safety actions at home, school or work.
