Somerset company shuts down Monday because of leak

SOMERSET, Ky. (WTVQ)- Prairie Farms Dairy shut down Monday due to a leak inside a cooler.

A small anhydrous ammonia leak was discovered in one of the coolers around noon.

The company manufactures milk and dairy products.

The company is located on Bourne Ave. in Somerset and the surrounding neighborhood was put on lock down for a time with residents asked to stay inside with windows closed.

For precautionary reasons, the company issued a code red.

The road was shut down as the Somerset Fire Department, police, emergency management, and other officials responded to the leak.

No one was hurt during the incident and the community was given the all clear Monday afternoon.

Officials monitored the situation for the afternoon and everything was back to normal by late Monday afternoon.

The fire chief stated that the department had been training for an event like this for two years and today everything went smoothly; Prairie Farms Dairy acted appropriately and followed protocol.
