Talk Derby to me: April 24th update

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – All eyes in the horse racing world are on Churchill Downs leading up to Kentucky Derby 144.

Of note Tuesday, Gronkowski, withdrawing from the field Monday, will point toward the Belmont Stakes.

As for the horses still in the mix…

Trainer Todd Pletcher’s contingent of 4 contenders hit the track to start getting in work Tuesday.

A group no doubt led by Magnum Moon.

The undefeated Rebel Stakes and Arkansas Derby winner has just looked the part in Pletcher’s eyes from the beginning.

Pletcher has 48 Kentucky Derby starters to his name; that ties former boss D. Wayne Lukas all-time with horses in the gate on the first Saturday in May.

That’ll change this year as Pletcher’s 4 contenders all look good to go at this point; including Audible, the Holy Bull and Florida Derby winner could run his way to roses no matter the pace if you ask his two-time, Derby-winning trainer.

Lukas, the 82-year-old, 4-time Derby winner has a long shot in Bravazo.

The Churchill Downs folks caught up with the seasoned vet to talk about his strong desire to add to his Derby resume plus his lone entrant this time around.

Hear from Pletcher and Lukas in the video.
