Smoke detectors credited with saving Georgetown family’s life from fire
GEORGETOWN, Ky. (WTVQ) — The Georgetown Fire Department is reminding of the importance of smoke detectors after they were credited with saving a family’s life from a fire.
Thursday around 5 p.m., firefighters were sent to a house fire on Fountain Avenue.
The fire began in the rear of the home and the GFD said children were possibly trapped.
Thankfully, everyone living in the home was able to escape safely while firefighters extinguished the flames from the back part of the home.
The occupants told firefighters they were able to escape safely because their smoke detectors altered them to the fire.
GFD crews say if you or someone you know needs smoke detectors, contact the Division of Fire Prevention at 502-603-5844 and they will help you out.
