Squatters believed to have caused fire in abandoned Lexington home

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) — Squatters were believed to have caused a fire at an abandoned home in Lexington Monday afternoon.

The fire started around 1 p.m. in the 100 block of Fairlawn Avenue.

According to the Lexington Fire Department, the house was abandoned and it’s believed the fire was caused by squatters knocking over a charcoal grill.

The home doesn’t have electricity, gas or water, the department added.

Crews are still on the scene investigating.

About 14 units responded.
