State, local leaders help light menorah in downtown Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky (WTVQ)- On Sunday, state and local leaders joined the Jewish Federation of the Bluegrass to light the fourth candle of the downtown menorah.
The event included Governor Andy Beshear, Lexington representatives Cherlynn Stevenson, Chad Aull, and Adrielle Camuel, and others.
There was also hot chocolate, Jewish songs, and guest speakers.
Executive director of the federation, Mindy Haas says this is the third year in Lexington the federation has celebrated Hanukkah downtown.
She says its a great way to spread a message that hate has no place in Lexington.
“It’s really important right now. This is a tough time of year for Jewish people across the country. And really all across the globe. The rise in antisemitism has been very difficult on our people. And i think having hanukkah- we look at is as one light can dispel darkness so tonight is candle number 4. And it is intended to dispel the darkness, at least in our city,” says Haas.
Hannukah wraps up on Friday.
