LEXINGTON, Ky (WTVQ)- UK Children’s Hospital leaders say the facility is full of sick children in need of special care.

But a million dollar donation presented Monday will help provide that care and some improvements to the hospital.

“I’ll tell you as I stand here today and even this morning, our children’s hospital is overflowing with patients,” says Dr. Scottie Day, a physician with UK.

Every day, Day says sees the many patients awaiting treatment.

“For us to dream big, and to dream about taking care of Kentucky’s kids, we do it together. And if it wasn’t for our philanthropy partners, for the leadership like coach, this wouldn’t be possible,” says Dr. Day.

On Monday, Dr. Day was on hand to receive an enormous donation from UK football coach Mark Stoops and the Coaches for the Kids Foundation.

“I’m excited because this year, $650k was raised for the Coaches for the Kids Foundation and it was topped off by another gift to total $1.1 million. You wanna know why that is significant? This is Coach Stoops 11th year at Kentucky,” says Dr. Day.

$1.118 million that will help the hospital with its mission of helping sick children throughout the Commonwealth.

The donations help renovate and improve areas of the hospital.
“All it takes is for one of us to have a child sick right and then we are going to be at the mercy of Dr. Scottie Day and his crew. And he treats everybody like royalty,” says Coach Stoops.

Coaches for the Kids was started by former UK football coach Rich Brooks, before Coach Stoops helped rejuvenate the foundation.

The funds are raised during the annual Bourbon and Cigar Dinner at Mt. Brilliant Farm in late July. The event already sold out for next year.
