‘Swatting’ call sends Lexington police to Frederick Douglass for false alarm
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) — Lexington police officers were sent to Frederick Douglass High School Wednesday morning after a “swatting” call about an active shooter.
According to Fayette County Public Schools spokesperson Dia Davidson, a call was made to police about an active shooter at the school — and that this call is fake.
“There is no safety threat and no students are in danger. All FCPS schools are safe and have no threat issues,” Davidson said in a statement.
Police have cleared the building as a safety measure.
Davidson says she wants to reiterate that this call was fake and that everyone — students and staff — is safe.
According to the FBI, a swatting call is when someone makes a hoax call to 911 to draw a response from law enforcement.
No other information was immediately available.
