Morehead Police seek charges against judge involved in hit-and-run crash

MOREHEAD, Ky. (WTVQ) — Morehead Police are planning to file charges against a Kentucky judge.

According to the Morehead Police Department, Judge William “Willie” Roberts was involved in a hit-and-run crash on March 10th in Morehead.

The operator of the other vehicle involved in the wreck was able to get the license plate number of the car that fled, officials say.

Police say when they located Judge Roberts, he admitted he had rear-ended a car. They say he didn’t say give a reason why he ran.

Roberts is a judge for District 21; this district includes counties Bath, Menifee, Rowan and Montgomery.

Roberts’ attorney Grover A. Carrington released this statement:

“Several weeks ago, Judge Roberts was involved in a minor rear-end accident on the off ramp of I-64.  He stopped to see if anyone was injured and spoke with the driver of the other vehicle.  He reported this accident to his insurance company and has reached out to the other driver to pay for any damage to her vehicle.”

They say he has no additional comments at this time.

We reached back to out to Morehead Police who then reached out to the driver who was hit by Roberts.

Police say the other driver reports that Roberts did get out of his vehicle to make sure no one was hurt, but didn’t give his insurance information.

When the other driver said she was going to call the incident in for a police report is when Roberts drove off, according to police.

Police also say Roberts hasn’t reached out to the other driver offering to pay for damages, like the release states.

The case is being handed over to a special prosecutor in Rowan County.
