Former Georgetown Police detective arrested
GEORGETOWN, Ky. (WTVQ)- A former Georgetown Police detective was arrested Thursday in connection to a criminal investigation from when he was still on the force.
Investigators say 38-year old Chris Bayer is accused of stealing drugs from the police department along with $300 that was to be used in a drug investigation, for his own personal use. Police also say Bayer was found with opiates that belonged to someone else.
He was charged with Theft by Unlawful Taking, Possession of a Controlled Substance and Abuse of Public Trust.
Police say the criminal and internal investigation of Bayer began February 21, 2018. He resigned in early March while the investigation was ongoing.
He bonded out of jail shortly after his arrest.
