Fire forces woman from townhome in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- A woman in Lexington will have to stay with family and friends after her townhome caught fire Friday night.

Firefighters say it happened around 7:30 p.m. at Downing Place Townhomes at the corner of Laredo and Spangler Drives.

The woman was able to get out safely and people in surrounding apartments evacuated as a precaution, according to firefighters.

The other townhomes were still livable, according to investigators.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

There was heavy fire, smoke and water damage to the townhome where the fire started.

Firefighters say there were flames coming out on the first floor of the townhome when they arrived.

They say they were able to knock the fire down quickly and made sure it hadn’t spread in between walls.

More than a dozen fire units responded to the scene.
