Madison Co. man allegedly fires shots at highway workers

MADISON COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – A man is in jail after allegedly firing shots at state highway workers.

According to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, the state highway garage was doing work on part of Old U.S. 25 when Jeff Mayne, 56, came out of his house, yelling at workers.

Deputies say Mayne was telling workers they were tearing up his family’s land.

That’s when deputies say Mayne went back in his house, before coming back outside waving a handgun around.

Deputies say workers heard several shots fire, and called 911.

When deputies, along with Kentucky State Police, arrived on scene, Mayne was arrested. He is charged with six counts of wanton endangerment, carrying a concealed weapon, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

The sheriff’s office says no one was injured.

Deputies believe Mayne may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
