Elderly man dies in collision with officer

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ)- An elderly man died Thursday in a collision with a KSP Vehicle Enforcement Officer on I-75 in Laurel County, according to the Laurel County coroner.

State Police say their preliminary investigation shows 85-year old John McQueen, of London, was parked on the right shoulder of the interstate when he tried to make an illegal left turn across the northbound lanes of I-75 in front of oncoming traffic in an effort to head south.

Investigators say Kentucky State Police Vehicle Enforcement Officer, 33-year old Christopher McQueen, of Corbin, was traveling north on I-75 when John McQueen pulled in front of him, leading to the collision.

State Police say John McQueen was not wearing a seat belt.  He died at the scene.

Officer Christopher McQueen and his passenger, 55-year old Mary Reed, of Corbin, were taken to the hospital in London where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The KSP Critical Incident Response Team is investigating the deadly collision.
