UPDATE: Man killed in officer-involved shooting identified

The Scott County Coroner has released the name of the man who was shot and killed by an officer Tuesday morning.

He is identified as 33-year-old Joel Pflum.

The coroner says he died from a gunshot wound to the upper torso.

GEORGETOWN, Ky. (WTVQ) – Police say a man was killed by an officer after he broke into a home in Georgetown Tuesday.

Georgetown Police say a man forced his way into the home of his ex-wife in the 100-block of Echo Path at around 12:30 a.m., armed with two handguns, two hunting knives and extra ammunition.

When officers arrived, they say there was a confrontation and they shot the man after he pointed a gun at the officers.

Police say the woman’s child was in the home at the time of the shooting. The woman and the child were not injured.

According to police, the man had an assault-style weapon in his car, along with multiple magazines and additional handgun magazines.

The name of the man has not been released.

No police officers were injured in the shooting.

The officer who shot the man has been placed on administrative leave, per department policy.

Georgetown Police say the investigation is being conducted through a joint effort of BACKUPPS Agencies, including the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Scott County Sheriff’s Office and Georgetown Police Department.
