Illegal alien convicted in Lexington for illegally possessing firearms

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- An illegal alien living in Lexington has been found guilty of illegally possessing firearms.

19 year-old Jesus Humberto Bernal- Berreaza, a Mexican National illegally residing in Lexington, was convicted on Friday, March 16.

A federal jury sitting in Lexington convicted him of being an Illegal Alien in Possession of a Firearm.

Lexington police arrested Bernal-Berreaza on December 7, 2017 for carrying a loaded and concealed .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun and also possessing 40 live rounds of .45 caliber ammunition.

The investigation was conducted by the Lexington Police Department, ICE, and the ATF.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Roger W. West represented the United States.

Bernal- Berreaza is scheduled for sentencing on June 18, 2018 and faces a maximum of 10 years in prison.
