Signage honoring Verne Orndorff to be unveiled in Winchester
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)-Signage honoring a man who dedicated most of his career to public service to be unveiled.
The bridge on Kentucky Route 974/Kiddville Road over the Mountain Parkway in Clark County will be designated the “Verne G. Orndorff Memorial Bridge”.
The sign will be unveiled at the Bluegrass Heritage Museum located at 217 S. Main Street, Winchester, Ky. on Sunday, March 18 at 2:00 PM.
Verne Glendon Orndorff spent many years in public service first starting his career with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the the U.S. Forestry Service.
Orndorff served as a landscape architect for the Daniel Boone National Forest with primary duties including design and layout of trails to scenic overlooks and vistas.
He established the Sheltowee Trace National Recreation Trail, which runs through Kentucky, Tennessee, and West Virginia.
Orndorff was also a writer and poet and co-founded the Clark County Writer’s Club.
He also served with the U.S. Army Air Corps as a weatherman in Australia and New Guinea during WWII.
This dedication is by action of the Kentucky General Assembly.
