Child accidentally shot in Bell County
Blackmont, Ky. (WTVQ) – Authorities say charges could be filed after a child was shot by her brother in Bell County.
Kentucky State Police say they received a call about an accidental shooting on Charles Collett Road in the Blackmont community at around 8:30 p.m. Monday.
Troopers say their preliminary investigation indicates an 11-year-old boy accidentally shot his 6-year-old sister in the head with a handgun.
The girl was taken to Middlesboro Regional hospital then flown to University of Tennessee.
State Police say she was alert and responsive and is said to be in critical but stable condition.
At the time of the shooting, police say the children were left alone with no adult supervision inside the home and there were several loaded firearms that were not properly secured.
They say charges are pending in the case.
