LONDON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A threat against a Laurel County school has led to the arrest of a teenager.

Kentucky State Police say on Tuesday morning, they received a call about a threat made against North Laurel Middle School in Laurel County.

Troopers say a 15-year-old who attends North Laurel Middle School sent a message to another student threatening to shoot up the school on Tuesday morning.

The teenager was found at North Laurel Middle School shortly after receiving the complaint, according to State Police, and was arrested.

He is now in the Breathitt County Juvenile Detention Center on charges of terroristic threatening.

Laurel County Sheriff’s deputies conducted school safety walkthroughs at schools throughout Laurel County on Tuesday, including North Laurel Middle School.

Sheriff John Root said in a Facebook post that the walkthroughs are to provide “an increased level of safety and security for students and staff throughout Laurel County because of recent events in Florida and Kentucky.”

He says in addition to the walkthroughs, there will be random, unscheduled safety checks routinely throughout the school year.
