KSP: Laurel County man fatally shot after firing at officers

LONDON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Kentucky State Police say officers were forced to shoot a Laurel County man after they say he fired on them first.

State Police say Laurel County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to a home on Kentucky Highway 229 in London at around 2:50 p.m. Sunday about reports of a man shooting a gun outside.

Deputies say when they arrived, they told 45-year-old Anthony S. McDaniel to drop his weapon. They say McDaniel refused, shot at them and hit a police cruiser.

State Police say the deputies then opened fire, hitting McDaniel.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The deputies involved have been placed on administrative leave while Kentucky State Police investigate.
