Man accused of kidnapping, raping and stabbing woman

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ) – Barbourville Police say they found a horrific scene after responding to a call of a woman yelling for help on Thanksgiving.

Investigators say when they arrived at a home, they could see blood on the inside wall of a trailer and heard a man inside, but say no one would come to the door.

They say that man, 44-year old Fred Brown, of Barbourville, was told to come out, at which time he was secured.

Investigators say inside the trailer they found a 39-year old woman immobile in a bed, covered in blood and suffering from blood loss.  She was airlifted from the scene to UK Hospital in Lexington.

Police say the woman told investigators Brown held her against her will for an unknown amount of time, repeatedly stabbed her, raped her and then stabbed her again.

Investigators say the woman had more than 25 penetrating stab wounds and dozens of superficial slices, cuts or jab marks.

Police say Brown was arrested and charged with Criminal Attempt to Commit Murder (Domestic Violence); Kidnapping 1st Degree; Unlawful Imprisonment 1st Degree and Rape 1st Degree.

He was lodged in the Knox County Jail on a $250,000 bond, according to police.
