UK Rugby team falls to Mary Washington in semifinal, 38-7
OXFORD, Oh (Dave Redden) – In the National D-IAA Rugby semifinal against #2 seed, Mary Washington the Wildcats faced a very well rounded team and lost 38-7.
The University of Kentucky Men’s rugby team traveled to Oxford, Ohio this weekend to continue their quest for a National Championship.
On Saturday they faced Western Michigan in the quarterfinals and ran out 59-25 winners on the back of a strong second half performance, only having a 19-18 lead at the half.
The #3-seeded Wildcats struggled to gain a foothold in the first twenty minutes of the game as they were starved of the ball by their opponents. Dom DeGeronimo scored a try early in the second half to make the score 26-7, but the comeback the Wildcats hoped for was not to be.
Kentucky had an excellent season having gone unbeaten in the regular season, crowned champions of the Southeastern Collegiate Rugby Conference and finishing in the “Final Four” nationally in D-IAA rugby. The record for the season is 9-1.
