“I lost my kid too”- mother of suspect in murders of two Winchester teens
WINCHESTER, Ky. (WTVQ)- Kids accused of killing kids in Clark County. A shooting Tuesday night at the Washington Street Apartments in Winchester killed 16-year-olds Adrianna Castro and Kayla Holland.
The four charged in their murders are 22-year-old Darian Skinner, 24-year-old Denzel Hill, 18-year-old Mikaela Buford, and 18-year-old Ronnie Ellis, who turned himself in Wednesday before the four went before a judge today for the first time.
That judge set bond for each of them at $1,000,000 because the crime is so serious.
Police are still trying to figure out what happened Tuesday night at the Washington Street Apartments. People in Winchester are shocked such gruesome murders happened so close to the police department in what they say is usually a peaceful town.
Friends of the two victims say their friends were good people, two kind-hearted and funny young women. Friends and family of two of the suspects describe their loved ones in much the same way.
After court, Mikaela Buford’s Mother tearfully told reporters her daughter has never seen a jail cell, never been in trouble, just turned 18, and just got into college.
Buford’s arrest citation says she drove three gunmen to the apartments, waited, then drove one away from the scene in what the citation calls “a get away car”. Buford’s Mom says her heart goes out to the victims’ families, but she insists her daughter must have been offering someone an innocent ride.
“I’m very sorry, but my daughter, she’s not a killer. Anybody that knows her knows she’s not a killer,” Rachael Miller said.
The Clark County Superintendent says he has counselors at every school building.
Miller says her whole family is now getting threats online because of this. There are plans in the works for a vigil. Kayla Holland’s friends tell ABC 36 there is a funeral fund for her. You can donate at Scobee Funeral Home.
